Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC) is a quaternary ammonium biocide consisting of alkylbenzyldimethylammonium chlorides with varying alkyl chain lengths. It is used as a preservative and disinfectant in cosmetic, healthcare and institutional applications. Standard supply is a white to pale yellow powder (≥99%); liquid grades of lower concentration are available on request.
Product Overview
Benzalkonium chloride (BKC), CAS 8001-54-5, is a quaternary ammonium biocide and cationic surfactant. Vekchem supplies the full C12–C24 alkyl chain range, so the homolog distribution can be matched to your formulation instead of being limited to a single grade.
As a cationic surfactant, BKC disrupts microbial cell membranes and is used where cleaning and disinfection are required at the same time. In formulation work it also acts as a cationic emulsifier, and it is compatible with the non-ionic and amphoteric surfactants commonly used in disinfectant systems.
The standard form is a white to pale yellow powder; a liquid form is available on request. Alkyl chain length and physical form are both customized to customer requirements. BKC is not regulated as dangerous goods for transport.
